This very early set of books feature card magic, optical and mechanical tricks. A very important set in the history of magic, filled with beautiful engravings. These were owned by Will Goldson and donated by him to his club, The Magicians' Club. They all bear stamps for his club throughout and each volume is signed by Goldston on a "Presented by" stamp. These are all fourth editions from 1794. The condition is poor, though, see below.
Condition: Poor, all have issues with the boards and spines, including a front board missing on Volume III. In all cases the leather has become embrittled with deterioration and loss. The pages are generally clean with wear, marks and some creasing. The text blocks are mostly still attached though there are some loose pages, particularly at the front and back. This would be a very good candidate for a sensitive rebinding by a professional binder. Well rebound sets sell consistently for over £700, but I would prefer the buyer to choose how they handle these. To be regularly used for reference rebinding would be required to prevent further deterioration.
